The Nurture Project

A new parenting course has been set up to help teenage mums and dads in Leicester. The course is designed for 14 to 18-year-olds who are pregnant or have already had a baby and aims to teach them new skills and offer support and advice.

EX-PRISONERS 'CAN MAKE GOOD STAFF

Dozens of employers heard yesterday how giving jobs to offenders can be good business. Firms met agencies which seek to help released prisoners find work at a regional conference, held at the Walkers Stadium, in Leicester.

Leicestershire Business Awards

At the Leicestershire Business Awards Apex had made it to the final three in the "Contribution to the Community" category. Although Apex didn't win this year, making it into the final three was a great acheivement and a fantastic night was had by all concerned.

DIARY DATE FOR LONE PARENTS

A pioneering course designed to help get job-seeking lone parents into work and training has been unveiled by Leicester charity Apex.

The ‘Mini Discovery Week’ devised in partnership with Job Centre Plus, is a two-day course taking place at the Apex offices in Charles Street on 27th and 28th February. A free lunch and childcare are included.

MANDY NOW THE FACE OF APEX – THANKS TO ENTRY TO EMPLOYMENT COURSE

A teenager from Leicester who left school with no qualifications has landed a full-time job – as the ‘face’ of the organisation that was originally supposed to help her find work elsewhere!

Mandy Hirrell, now 18, started on an Entry to Employment course with training charity Apex, based in Leicester’s Charles Street, after having no luck finding permanent employment when she left school.

APEX CHIEF DEDICATES OBE TO COLLEAGUES

“An honour for the whole Apex organisation”: that was the view of Ann Height, Chief Executive of the Leicester-based training charity, when she travelled to Buckingham Palace to collect her OBE.

Ann travelled with members of her family to join around 100 other recipients at the Palace to receive her award, for “ services to the rehabilitation of offenders”, from HRH the Prince of Wales, and said it was a memorable and awe-inspiring experience.

PETER TO DRIVE FORWARD CLIENT SERVICE STANDARDS AT APEX

Leicester-based training charity Apex has further expanded its executive team with the appointment of Peter Warlow to the new role of client services manager.

Peter, 43, has overall responsibility for the effective delivery of Apex’s training services to its clients across Leicester and Leicestershire, who range from adult learners to disaffected youngsters and come from a wide variety of backgrounds.

CASH BOOST TRIGGERS CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN ADULT LEARNING

Leicester-based charity Apex has secured five-figure funding from JobCentre Plus for a brand new course for individuals seeking a rewarding career in supporting adult learners.

The grant win from the Ethnic Minority Flexible Fund means ten participants are being sought for the free course, which leads to a City & Guilds qualification in Adult Learner Support – a vital qualification for anyone looking to work in this field.

FIRST SUCCESSFUL JOBFINDER THROUGH APEX COURSE FOR LONE PARENTS

An innovative course designed to help lone parents into work and training, run just a few weeks ago for the first time by Leicester-based charity Apex, has already delivered a happy ending for one participant.

Marie Baker grew up on the paradise island of Mauritius and her career had been spent in cooking for tourists staying in the luxury hotels which are the largest contributor to the island’s economy.

INNOVATIVE JOB-FINDING SCHEME IN LEICESTER MAKES ITS FIRST CENTURY!

An innovative accredited scheme designed to help unemployed people in Leicestershire find suitable employment has celebrated its first major landmark since it started just over a year ago.

The Employment Preparation initiative, one of a number of accredited employment support programmes run by Leicester city centre based charity Apex, is funded by Leicestershire Learning & Skills Council through Stephenson College. It has now helped a massive 100 local people into work – and has no plans to stop there!

APEX LAUNCHES AN INSPIRING FUTURE FOR JOBSEEKERS

A pioneering Leicester charity celebrated 23 years of helping nearly 10,000 people find work, and is looking forward to matching more employers with disadvantaged job seekers, when it opened brand new city centre headquarters on 9th June.

Apex has moved to a previously disused and now purposefully refurbished city centre building at 74-76 Charles Street, enabling it to enhance the range of services it offers to job seekers and the broader business community.
